Whether you’re a novice preparing for your first hunt or a veteran trying to get organized, you can use our checklist to keep your preparation on target.
PREPARING FOR THE HUNT:
- Licenses and applicable tags for the area and species you’re hunting
- Scent control on clothing and person
- Practice shooting (bow and gun)
- Ammo/arrows/broadheads
- Charged or full batteries for flashlights, phones, rangefinders
- Clothing appropriate for the weather
- Field dressing equipment (knives, gloves, wipes)
ON THE HUNT:
- 2-way radios, cell phone, GPS
- Ammo/arrows/broadheads
- Attraction scents (where applicable)
- Backpack
- Binoculars
- Blaze orange vest and hat for big game firearms seasons
- Blinds
- Calls (relevant to the species being hunted)
- Field dressing equipment
- Scent reduction spray
- Weather appropriate clothing and footwear (rain, snow, cold, warm clothing)
AFTER THE HUNT:
- Field dressing equipment (knives, gloves)
- Hunter reporting (mandatory in Ontario at the end of the season or after done hunting that species for the season)
- Rope or cart for game retrieval
